We are thrilled to announce the Sandy Mitchell: Bristol and District Combination Rugby 10s Tournament—a new event celebrating the incredible legacy of “Sandy” Mitchell BEM. 🏉
This exciting tournament, organised by Lockleaze Sports Centre and supported by Bristol & District Rugby Football Combination, is a fitting tribute to a man whose passion for rugby and dedication to the Lockleaze community will never be forgotten.

Honouring Sandy Mitchell
Sandy Mitchell’s journey with Lockleaze Sports Centre began as the Chairman of the Trust, where his vision, leadership, and determination helped shape the Centre into a premier sporting hub for Lockleaze and the wider community.
Beyond his work at the Centre, Sandy’s tireless contributions to rugby in Bristol and beyond cemented his status as a true pillar of the sport. Known for his kindness and integrity, Sandy left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
The Sandy Mitchell: Bristol and District Combination Rugby 10s Tournament will celebrate his passion for rugby and his enduring legacy within the sport.
This year’s Sandy Mitchell 10s celebrates not only the spirit of competition but also the unwavering support within the rugby community. Former Bristol Bears Academy player Liam O’Keeffe, who sustained a life-changing injury playing for St Mary’s Old Boys in Bristol, exemplifies this resilience. With the support of the RFU Injured Players Foundation (IPF), Liam is set to become the first person with tetraplegia to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro using a specially adapted mountain trike. His journey underscores the importance of community and the impact of organizations like the IPF in empowering players to overcome adversity.
